CHOIR TOURS

Tours are an essential part of the choir's life, presenting opportunity for more concentrated rehearsals and a chance for the choir to grow as a unit, as well as the wider educational benefits any tour is likely to bring.

Musically, the extra rehearsal time possible on tour enables the sound of the choir to develop considerably, gives added opportunity for new repertoire to be learnt, and allows rehearsal to a level of detail which is difficult to manage normally in the context of day-to-day Cathedral services.

Socially, the time spent together helps choir members get to know each other much better than is normally possible, and the bonding provided by sharing other activities can translate itself into increased unity chorally, as well as forming the basis for lasting friendships.

Educationally, tours can be of great benefit for everyone, but especially for the youngsters. In particular, visits to foreign countries can be extremely enlightening, providing a chance to see parts of the world and cultures not normally accessible to choristers.

This year (2006) the whole choir has visited Normandy for a week. More information about this tour, including pictures, can be found here.

Since 1998, Sheffield Cathedral Choir has made the following tours:
